About the Course
As practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we must bridge the gap between TCM and Western biomedicine. With a clear understanding of healthy physiology according to TCM, we can better interpret common symptoms and biomedicine diagnoses through a TCM lens. Then we must address the source of the problem by reestablishing the body’s healthy Qi cycle. This course will bridge that gap and clarify your understanding gastrointestinal physiology, disease, and treatment with TCM.
Course Objectives
In this course, students will learn how to diagnose and gastrointestinal issues commonly seen in a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic. This includes the following:
Common gastrointestinal symptoms of constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas, nausea, vomiting
Epigastric, hypochondrial, and abdominal pain and masses
Functional disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Structural diseases like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), chronic appendicitis, gallstones and pancreatitis, fatty liver disease, and hemorrhoids.
Weight management strategies and blood sugar monitoring
Diagnosis techniques will include pulse and tongue analysis. Treatment modalities will follow Dr. Ching Ching Chi’s Traditional Chinese Medicine Unified Practice Method, which includes scalp and body acupuncture protocols, herbal formula combinations, as well as recommended dietary and lifestyle changes.
